Pigging is a process of inserting a specialized device known as a "pig" into a gas pipeline to clean, inspect, or assess the internal condition of the pipeline without interrupting gas transmission.

GASCO is currently conducting a special pigging operation on the main natural gas pipeline running from Madimba (Mtwara) and Songosongo (Lindi) to Dar es Salaam. The first pig has already been received at the Somanga Fungu station — a key milestone in ensuring the pipeline continues to transport gas efficiently, safely, and in accordance with national and international standards.
